Process & Production

Sewing the seeds of sustainable success

At Olatein, our mission is to produce a product that benefits both planet and people - including our local community.

Our production facility is designed to be Greenhouse Gas (GHG) neutral. Organic waste is converted into biogas providing renewable energy for 3,000 households and we aim to purchase green electricity to power our operations.

Meanwhile, water is used at low temperatures and then recycled - thus further enhancing energy efficiency.

The canola seeds themselves are cold-pressed, with less processing required. And importantly, all of this takes place without the need for additional arable land - thus creating maximum value with minimal impact.

The process: cake with a difference

Our starting point is the canola ‘cake’ (or meal) created when the canola seeds are crushed on-site using a solvent-free process to produce canola oil.

The protein is then extracted from this leftover cake using our patented technology to ensure that it retains the highest nutritional and functional value, while the non-protein part of the cake is used for animal feed.

The end result is Vertis™CanolaPRO® - officially recognized by the Upcycled Certified Program as being the only commercially available upcycled protein with a nutritionally complete PDCAAS=1 score.

Setting the standard in sustainable manufacturing

Olatein is setting the standard in sustainable manufacturing. Our factory in Dieppe features an advanced water recycling system that reduces water and energy use, while our wastewater treatment facility converts organic matter into biogas, a renewable energy source.

The oils obtained by crushing rapeseed seeds are transformed into biofuel. The protein is used to produce Vertis™ CanolaPRO®. Additionally, the non-protein part of the rapeseed cake is repurposed as animal feed, minimizing waste. Our team is dedicated to a circular production process with minimal waste and the lowest carbon footprint possible, making Olatein a leader in eco-friendly innovation.

Safe and sound

Safety is the number one priority at our Dieppe plant. We have extensive measures in place to safeguard both our employees and the community, holding all necessary safety permits. Our safety program emphasizes continuous improvement and awareness. The well-being of our employees is central to our operations, with regular training. We are committed to the neighbourhood safety, engaging transparently about our practices. Continuous review ensures we stay at the forefront of safety innovation, making safety a core part of our identity.
